How Parkinson's Law Affects Students

The Wikipedia definition of Parkinson's Lawis the adage that "work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion".It is very important to put a reasonable time frame for each task you are willing to do otherwise you will be spending more time in a task that need less time. This is extremely important for students to fully understand this concept.

One of the most common mistakes students do when they study for exams is forgetting the time limit during the exam. Let’s say for example the exam time is an hour for four physics problems. This means that you need to solve one problem each 15 minute. While some teachers don’t explain anything about the exam beforehand, the student still need to estimate the needed time for each problem. Most teachers do realize that some students are capable of solving the exam correctly when they are given more time. However, time is part of the evaluation of the student’s progress and skills in the course.

Moreover, when the teacher is flexible about postponing the exam for few days or one week, often times it won’t make the students more prepared for the exam. This is of course depending on many factors such as the school system, the students and the teacher. Based on my personal experience, when the teacher give us one week notice about a test, all students do not take it seriously until two days before the test. When they realized that they cannot prepare well for the exam, they demand to push the exam one week. However, this actually will not change ANYTHING.

How to fix this problem?

As a student, you improve your preparation for the exam by using a timer. This will help you to improve your speed in solving the problem or writing the essay. You won’t make wise estimation of the needed time in the beginning but gradually you will improve your estimation. If you do not want to use your smartphone you can buy a timer or just use an alarm clock to avoid getting distracted by the smartphone.

Poison Positivity

When I was in my third year in college, I had an acute depression. I had very bad grades and I had a lot of family problems. Starting from 2018, I decided to listen and read about self-development. I immersed myself in this world and I replaced my negativity with positivity. I literally brainwashed my brain. After I have have solved my depression problem completely, I started looking unsatisfied on many self-development post. I realized that often time, being optimistic is just a way of escaping the brutal truth. It is actually will make you less happy instead of more happy. Even too much positivity is bad for you.

The Chalisgaon Solar Panel Vandalism Incident: A Labor Protest Turned Viral

In 2018, a labor dispute at a solar farm in Chalisgaon, Maharashtra, India, escalated into an incident of vandalism, where frustrated workers destroyed solar panels. The workers were employed to construct and maintain a 100-megawatt solar project but took drastic action due to unpaid wages. Videos showed them smashing the panels with hammers and sticks in protest. Initially, some misinformation circulated online, suggesting that the destruction was motivated by superstitions, such as blaming the panels for causing droughts. However, fact-check investigations confirmed that the primary reason was non-payment of wages. The workers, angered by the delayed compensation, decided to damage the infrastructure as a form of protest. This incident highlights the vulnerabilities within labor management in large-scale infrastructure projects. The combination of financial mismanagement and lack of proper communication between workers and project administrators can lead to such severe reactions. The...

Why You Cannot Achieve More Than One Goal in The Same Period of Time

One of the most common traps people fall into is trying very hard to achieve more than one goal in the same period of time. They might be very motivated to master more than one skill so they create a schedule to help them work on all their goals in a daily basis. They keep working hard on multiple goals in the same time for months without getting a satisfying result. Then they start to question their strategy in learning each skill and change it and keep repeating the same cycle again. They start to work on one goal all the time but after two or three weeks they start to work in more than one goal and the cycle keep repeating.             What I mean by a goal or a skill in this post is something like, improving your academic performance, master a musical instrument, learn a language, have a good body shape, learn drawing, be a great engineer, be great writer, learn a coding language, …etc. These are just some examples but you ...
